FUEL SHIELD - Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about SCI and its products.  Please feel free to contact us to obtain additional information or request a full, in-person demonstration.

Can you bypass the system if the RFID is not working?

Every system comes with bypass key and a manager key. When using the bypass key, the system will record all transaction activities – but will not record the vehicle number. When using the manager key – all transaction data will be captured and the manager will have to supply hand record of the transaction and report the potential problems to our helpdesk.

How do you fuel rental equipment?

By issuing a Smart Chip Key and limiting the amount of fuel per transaction it will allow.

How do you install the RFID?

We supply the installation kit. no drilling into the fuel tank is required.

How easy is it to take the RFID off?

It is possible to remove the RFID, however not knowing the technical implications and warning signals acts as a deterrent.

How easy is it to remove the RFID nozzle antenna?

The nozzle antenna is secured to the nozzle with five Allen screws. The nozzle antenna has no commercial value and will not work with any other system or nozzle.

Can the Mile Shield record both engine hours and odometer miles?

Yes. The miles will be recorded via GPS and or the JBUS of the vehicle. The hours will be recorded only when the engine is running through our on board hour counter.

Can the Mile Shield  record engine hours if the equipment does not have an hour meter?

Yes, the SmartMile has its own built in hours meter that counts the hours only when the engine is running.

What communication method does the FuelApp web have?

FuelAppweb has multiple options of communications. It can be used as a post transactions device or on line transaction in real time. The FuelAppweb can communicate with RF (radio frequency) antennas, Wi-Fi 802.11 g, GPRS cell communication, fiber optic, RG45 network cables, normal phone modem with phone line, and manual download of transaction with laptop.

Is the FuelAppweb weather-proof?

Yes, the box is secured with an internal weather strip which prevents moisture from entering. All electrical connections are made through conduit which is sealed at the box as well.

What is the life expectancy of the Smart Ring installed on the vehicle?

Approximately 7-10 years.

What happens to the data when my system goes down?

All data is stored in the WebShield until it is transmitted to the main database at the office. FuelAppweb can store the last 1200 transactions in its memory. All transaction data is backed up on the PC. We also provide full data recovery of the last two years as an option.

Can I transfer the RFID to another vehicle?

Yes. You will need to get some training on how to do that.

When adding or deleting codes from the system, do I have to plug a computer into each FuelAppweb ?

No, the software that comes with the system allows you to update codes to one or all

WebShield units without the need to go to the fuel island.

Does the FuelShield require a dedicated computer in the office?

No, the information can be sent to a central server or served by our web based application.

Can the FuelShield interface with my preventive maintenance, accounting or fleet software?

Yes, we can interface with any fleet and accounting software. The software has the ability to automatically export information and fully integrate with other software. In addition the data can be exported to Excel files, CSV file and more as well as create custom file layout.

Will the FuelShield monitor the fuel level in my storage tank?

Yes, when your fuel supplier delivers fuel, you will enter the amount from the Bill of Lading into the system. Since we track every drop of fuel that is pumped, the system will track the level of each of your tanks.

Can I use a fuel card with the Fuel Shield?

You can use any third party fuel card with our system and authorize transactions without the extra transaction charge.

Can I include a “cost center” entry to the authorization?

Yes, we provide Project Codes that can be entered by the driver in order to assist in billing back the fuel to the correct department or job.

Will Fuel Shield prevent the wrong fuel from being pumped into a vehicle?

Yes, our technology allows you to have multiple fuel types at the same site and prevent cross fueling.

Does the Fuel Shield system calculate prices?

Yes, if you enter the price of the fuel each time you take a delivery , you will see the price in for each transaction in your reports. .

Can Fuel Shield print receipts?

Yes, we can install a receipt printer next to the FuelShield and print receipts for your drivers. The system can create custom and receipt.

Can Fuel Shield be installed on a mobile tanker?

Yes – the system can work on mobile tanker without the need to install any power convertor (you will need is a working flow meter and valve on the refueling truck).

What is the operating Voltage of Fuel Shield?

12VDC. We take 110VAC and convert it to.

Du you have local service and support?

We have installers and support team throughout the US. Overseas support is rendered by our authorized distributors.

How I can collect the hours of the Off Road equipment?

The mobile tanker is equipped with a special RF device that retrieves the data from the Off Road equipment each time it is near the equipment. This process is done automatically without human intervention .
